Charlie Angus on the passing of Gord Downie

The boy, Canada's boy has gone home to Fiddler's Green.

We are so heartbroken by the loss of our friend Gord Downie.

The Tragically Hip was the soundtrack for our nation.

The cranked up,rowdy arena rock band were profoundly intimate, profoundly Canadian.

I was honoured to know Gord from my days as a touring musician.

He wasnt  just a phenomenal artist but was a decent loving human being who knew a better world is possible.

In facing his own mortality Gord transformed his suffering to bring our nation on a road of justice and reconciliation. And what he wanted us to understand that there are still tens of thousands of young Channie Wenjacks who are still trying to find their way home from a system that robs them of their families and rights.

Go to the angels Gord where a place has been made for you in the choir.

And we will watch the constellations reveal themselves with you one star at time.

You are loved.
