SURVEY #1 RESULTS - JULY 31, 2018
Friends,
Thank you for participating in our survey about the role Canada should play in an increasingly fractured world. Certainly, this summer has been unlike any other in recent decades with the destabilizing actions of President Trump.
As a parliamentarian, I have always worked hard to keep in touch with the views of the Canadian people who look to me for representation. There was a strong and engaged response to my recent survey (272 unique responses). It tells me that Canadians are concerned and engaged with these issues.
So here's what the survey found:
Nearly 80% of you thought that Canada should be taking on a greater role on the international stage to push for multilateral engagement and justice, and roughly the same proportion rejected the idea that we should close out the world’s problems and focus on ourselves.
I’m glad to see that so many of you are committed to Canada continuing to stand up for democracy, rights and a better standard of living all over the world at a time when we have Donald Trump in the White House and isolationist, xenophobic parties on the rise in Europe.
I also asked what Canada’s role should be on the world stage, and got some great responses:
"Advocate for the injustices of human rights, climate change and environmental issues."
"Canada should encourage peacekeeping, assist developing nations with education and reproductive health, and focus on poverty reduction."
"Pushing for social justice and human rights everywhere."
"Positive. A bridge builder."
Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts. Our August survey is now open. Click on the link below to participate and please share with your family and friends.
