CHARLIE ANGUS' LETTER TO SUPPORTERS - JULY 7, 2018
We're into the hot lazy day of summer but I wanted to update you on a few key files I have been working on.
TAKING ON BIG DATA'S "KILL ZONE OF INNOVATION"
Here is the latest op-ed I have written for the Toronto Star about taking on the growing political, economic power of Google. There is a disturbing relationship between Silicon Valley lobbyists and the Trudeau government. This isn't good for Canadian citizens, consumers or innovators.
SPEAKING UP ON MENTAL HEALTH AND JOB STRESS
Perhaps you heard the story of the young Liberal staffer who considered suicide because of the enormous pressure placed on young political staffers. I have been speaking up on the issue of addressing workplace mental health in Parliament and in workplaces across Canada.
As the summer progresses I will be holding town halls on my campaign for a national action plan for suicide prevention.
CONTINUING TO PUSH FOR PAPAL APOLOGY
Last week I received a surprising invitation to attend a small gathering with Pope Francis's ambassador to Canada. The papal nuncio is clearly paying close attention to the work I have been doing in Parliament to push for a papal apology for the horrific crimes of the residential school era.
We had a good and frank talk. I will continue to find ways to move the Church along to do their duty in joining us in this work of reconciliation.
NEW WEBSITE AND MONTHLY SURVEY
On Friday, we launched the new TEAM CHARLIE ANGUS website. It's a tool - really, a suite of tools - designed to help constituents and others find out what I'm doing, where I'm going, and how I can help.
I'm also looking to hear your opinion with our monthly surveys. In a world of growing instability, what role should Canada play? Should we step up on the international stage or should we withdraw and concentrate on our own issues? Is there a place for a principled international vision while building a better society at home? Please participate in our survey and share the link with your family and friends too!
I hope you have a wonderful and safe summer.
Thank you, Charlie
