CHARLIE ANGUS' LETTER TO SUPPORTERS - JANUARY 18, 2019
Tomorrow morning at 10:00 am, I will be rising in the House of Commons to call on Parliament to establish an independent inquiry into allegations that the PMO attempted to undermine a legal case into corruption allegations against SNC-Lavalin.
This call for an inquiry comes on the heels of the sudden resignation of Gerry Butts which has been a political bombshell for the Trudeau government. Mr Butts was the architect of the "sunny ways" agenda - taking Justin Trudeau from the furthest back bench as the sports critic of the third party to Prime Minister.
Canadians don't like scandals. They would rather we focused on positive initiatives to improve lives. But the impacts of corruption and cronyism are having a corrosive impact on the body politic.
The SNC scandal is about the power of insiders to undermine the law, to abuse the system and to count on powerful friends to protect them when they are caught. This scandal is about taking on the power of the 1%.
If you have the time tomorrow morning, I encourage you to watch. I will lay out how this crony capitalism needs to be called out and exposed.
Thank you for your support.
We're in this together, Charlie
